How We Work

Help Us Help You

The timeline below is intended to give you a sketch of how we work. It does not constitute an exhaustive list of our terms and conditions, which can be found here. In the event that there is any conflict between the timeline below and our terms and conditions, our terms and conditions take precedence.

Reach out to us to check for our availability. Please bear our tips for the best time to shoot in mind when picking a date, time, and venue (there are surcharges for remote locations).

We offer a pre-booking consultation to all potential clients, either in-person (preferred, especially with pets involved) or virtually. During the consultation, you will get a commitment-free opportunity to assess the chemistry between us (e.g., comfort level of your pets), and we will work with you for the feel and location of your shoot, as well as any props you may want to bring. Once we have firmed up a date, time, and venue, your initial payment is due.

We allow for one unilateral re-scheduling by you as long as it is made more than 3 days in advance of the shoot day. If there are extenuating circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, emergencies), reach out to us early, and we will see what we can do. Any other re-scheduling that is not mutual will be taken as a cancellation by you.

Please be on time for your shoot. You are solely responsible for ensuring that we have legal access to the location (e.g., NParks application for commercial photography, adhering to location opening hours). We believe that photo shoots are an iterative process – we are working together before, during, and after the shoot to tailor the experience and final product to your preferences and comfort. Our session time includes travelling within the venue (e.g., one end of a park to another). We will pencil in some time at the start of the shoot to warm up (especially if there are partners and pets involved). Please leave some time at the end of the shoot to review photos from the session so that we have a better idea of how to select shots that you like for final delivery.

Why Not Choose Everything?

Our job doesn’t end on the shoot day. Our commitment is to edit the photos we take in a natural way that tells the story of the shoot. Thoughtful post-processing costs time and labour, and not all shots will make a coherent narrative. We are therefore unable to post-process all of the shots from any given shoot.

Over the course of post-processing, we may reach out to you with low-resolution, watermarked drafts to understand your stylistic preferences. Upon the completion of post-processing (within the agreed-upon time frame), we will provide evidence that the work has been completed. Final payment is due before the delivery of the final product (typically high-resolution, post-processed images not in a RAW format).

While a midday timing may seem the most convenient, we highly recommend sunrise (8am-10am - we know it’s a big ask!) and sunset (5:30pm-6:30pm) for the best lighting. Midday sun can be problematic because:

  • Everyone sweats up a storm, including and especially you!
  • Midday sun creates harsh shadows over your eye sockets from your eyebrows and forehead. This is extremely difficult to correct in post

If you must have a midday shoot, we recommend choosing a shaded or indoor venue to mitigate these issues.

Terms & Conditions (Shoots)

Payment

  1. An initial payment 30% of the final package price is due upon booking. This initial payment is not a deposit or a retainer. The initial payment serves to secure your session date, current pricing and terms & conditions associated with your session. Cancellation / Rescheduling

  1. The client is allowed one unilateral re-scheduling at least 3 days in advance without any additional fees. Any other unilateral rescheduling by the client will be considered a cancellation by the client (leading to a forfeiture of the initial payment). It is the client’s duty to reach out to Borel Photo Singapore as soon as possible in the event of any emergencies (e.g., illness).

  2. Borel Photo Singapore maintains the right to unilaterally reschedule any shoot if needed due to inclement weather, illness, emergency, equipment malfunction or circumstances beyond our control. A rescheduling as such will not be considered a cancellation.

  2. We will strive to present and edit the photographs in a workmanlike manner, but we are not required to cater to any specific aesthetic preferences of the client. The delivery of any final product is final. There will not be any re-shoots, re-edits, or refunds for any perceived or actual failures to meet any specific aesthetic preferences of the client.

  3. If inclement weather, illness, emergency, equipment malfunction or circumstances beyond our control lead to a cancellation of the shoot (note that this is distinct from a re-scheduling), the client agrees to indemnify us for any loss, damage, or liability. However, we will return in full all payments (including the initial payment) made by the client to us in relation to the shoot.

  4. The client agrees to indemnify us for any liability, damage, or loss related to technological failure, such as but not limited to data loss, photographic materials are damaged in processing, lost through camera or media malfunction, lost in the mail, or otherwise lost or damaged without fault on the part of the photographer.

  5. The client agrees to be fully responsible for any clothing, make-up, hair, or props that may be used or involved in the shoot. In particular, there will be no re-shoots, re-edits, or refunds given for poor choices of clothing, make-up, hair, weather related issues, or by not following the recommendations of the photographer.

  6. The client understands and agrees that we are not required to maintain copies of any photographs from any session in any format (including the photographs that were delivered to the client as the final product) after the delivery of the final product. The client agrees that it is their responsibility to store, back up, or otherwise ensure continued possession of and access to any soft copies of images delivered.

  7. The client releases Borel Photo Singapore from all liabilities, claims and damages, injury or loss of life that may result from any accidents or incidents that may happen during the shoot. This includes all cost and expenses incurred as a result of such claims.

  8. In the event of any liability (including but not limited to the circumstances covered above and elsewhere in this contract), the client agrees that our liability will be limited to the amount that the client has paid us.

Borel Photo Singapore also retains the right to re-edit any images taken during the shoot by Borel Photo Singapore. The client is granted a license only with respect to the photographs that are eventually delivered as the final product, and only for their personal use.

  2. Any proofs of photographs sent to the client (including but not limited to proof of work, any draft edits of the photographs to consult the client’s preferences) are the exclusive property of Borel Photo Singapore. The client has no right to these photographs except for a license to review the photographs. This license to review does not extend to storage of the proofs of photographs after they have served their intended purpose (for example but not limited to after the client has verified that the proof of work is legitimate, or after the client has communicated their preference with respect to drafts). The client undertakes to delete any copies of any proofs of photographs after the proofs of photographs after they have served their intended purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Location surcharges help us offer better rates for photo shoots that are accessible by public transport. Remote locations require us to engage private hire cars or taxis, which are much more expensive compared to public transport. If we did not have location surcharges, we would need to build in the highest possible transport cost into every shoot, resulting in higher rates even for clients who opt for locations that are accessible.

For this reason, we are open to discussing the waiving of any location surcharges if the client arranges for transportation that is convenient for us (e.g., if the client drives and picks us up from and drops us off at a suitably convenient MRT station).

The assessment of the location surcharge is based on the distance between the agreed upon meeting point within the location to the nearest MRT or bus stop. The time for the session starts when Borel Photo Singapore reaches the agreed upon meeting point at the agreed upon time. If the client opts to use the closest edge of the location as the agreed upon meeting point in order to avoid a location surcharge, then the time for their shoot will include our walking from that meeting point to wherever the first shot is. Photography time is always worth more than any travel surcharge, so consider the meeting point for the shoot accordingly.
